A new clinic aimed at improving the lives of patients diagnosed with heart failure will open Monday, June 4.
The Heart Failure Clinic at Floyd will provide lab work, medication administration and educational resources for heart failure patients. The goal is to improve self-care of patients and empower them to understand and take control of their health, said Marenda Russell, Floyd Heart Failure Program Coordinator.
“We are excited to offer the clinic as an option for our patients,” Russell said. “This clinic will offer patients and their families the opportunity to become more engaged in their care and more knowledgeable about their disease process. The staff will help develop a great support system.”
The clinic is located in Suite 103 on the first floor of the 330 Physicians Center, 330 Turner McCall Blvd., next to Floyd Medical Center. It will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Referrals from a physician will be required.
Dr. Himanshu Patel, a cardiologist at Harbin Clinic, will be the medical director. He will be joined by Emily Costolnick, who will be the clinical manager. She has been a registered nurse at Floyd’s Emergency Care Center for 16 years.
Nearly 6 million Americans are living with heart failure, which occurs when the heart cannot pump blood efficiently enough to meet the body’s needs, according to the American Heart Association. It’s one of the most common reasons people age 65 and older go into the hospital.
