Floyd Donating Portable Emergency Kits to Area Schools

Floyd Donating Portable Emergency Kits to Area Schools.

Rome City Schools students now have access to portable emergency kits, thanks to a donation from Floyd Medical Center's Emergency Preparedness Department.

Every school was given two of the kits that include bandages, hot and cold packs, a flashlight and even a special wrap to help keep someone warm in an emergency.

“We are really thankful for this partnership with Floyd Medical Center," said Louis Byars, Rome City Schools Superintendent. “Floyd has been very proactive with programs aimed at school safety. We hope we never have to use these kits, but we are very glad they are there."

Kenna Baker, Safety Officer and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at Floyd Medical Center, said the kits came about because of a request through the school nurse program.

“Jamie Youngblood, who oversees our school nurse program, called and said she needed some first-aid kits for our schools," Baker said. She said plans are in the works to provide them to other area schools, both public and private.

“We started by providing kits where we had a school nurse, but I didn't feel comfortable with that and wanted to make sure all the schools got them," Baker said.
