Attorney General Completes Hearing on Proposed Merger

Today, the public hearing concerning the combination of the Floyd health care system with Atrium Health was held in Rome at The Forum River Center.

This is a required step in the Georgia Attorney General's office that includes a comprehensive review of the planned joining of Floyd with Atrium Health.

During the hearing, numerous individuals spoke in favor of the merger. Their comments were supported by more than 65 letters of support written by members of the communities we serve.

Floyd and Atrium Health optimistically await the Attorney General's conclusion that the partnership between these two health care entities is in the best interest of our patients and communities.

The Attorney General's office now has 30 days to issue a final ruling regarding the merger.

“We have spent a lot of time crafting the agreements that will bring our two organizations together," said Kurt Stuenkel, Floyd president and CEO. “Our boards have chosen a great partner in Atrium Health, and I feel certain that the benefits are clearly evident and that within the next 30 days we will receive the approval that we desire."
