ROME, Ga., May 10, 2024 – Two teammates at Atrium Health Floyd Cherokee Medical Center – Alexia Wood and Deanna McGatha have been honored for their dedication to patients and their co-workers.
The DAISY Award is an international program that recognizes bedside nurses for the exceptional care they provide patients. The family of Patrick Barnes established the award after he died from an auto-immune disease while being treated in a Seattle hospital.
That was given to Wood, who “is willing to go extra mile in helping with order verification and safety," according to the nomination form. “She is so nice, and always on her job. She truly is a very important person."
The BEE, or Beyond Exceptional Expectations award, was created as a way for nurses at Atrium Health Floyd to recognize nursing support teammates who go beyond expectations.
That was given to Deanna McGatha, the secretary for the Emergency Department at the hospital. According to her teammates, she is an integral part of helping things run smoothly for patients and caregivers.
Her ability and care for her teammates and patients earned her a BEE Award.
“Deanna is one of the most valued members of our team. Without her we would not be able to work effectively. We love her so much," was one comment someone made in nominating her for the award.
“Deanna goes above and beyond to make sure the ER runs smoothly. This department would fall apart without her!," another teammate wrote.
