Atrium Health Floyd Cherokee Medical Center Expands Women’s Imaging Services

CENTRE, Ala., Nov. 20, 2025 – Atrium Health Floyd Cherokee Medical Center is proud to announce expanded services in its Women’s Imaging Suite, which opened earlier this year following a $1 million investment. The suite now offers screening and diagnostic mammography as well as breast ultrasound on-site, providing patients in Cherokee County, Alabama, and surrounding communities greater access to essential care close to home.

“These new services represent our ongoing commitment to improving access to care for women in our community,” said Ches Ely, Director of Imaging Services at Atrium Health Floyd. “By offering diagnostic mammography and breast ultrasound locally, we are ensuring that patients receive timely, high-quality imaging without having to travel long distances.”

The Women’s Imaging Suite, which officially opened in March, was designed to bring advanced technology and compassionate care to northeast Alabama. It features the latest, most advanced 3D mammography technology, delivering superior breast screening capabilities for early detection and improved accuracy.

In addition to screening mammography and bone density scans, the suite now provides diagnostic imaging for patients who need further evaluation following a screening mammogram. These enhancements support Atrium Health Floyd’s “Know in 24” pledge, ensuring patients receive results quickly and can move forward with any necessary care.

Breast cancer remains the second-most common cancer among women in the United States, with one in eight women facing a diagnosis in their lifetime. Expanding imaging services at Cherokee Medical Center underscores Atrium Health Floyd’s mission to deliver lifesaving care and strengthen rural health resources.

National Rural Health Day

November 20 is National Rural Health Day, a time to recognize the unique healthcare challenges faced by rural communities and celebrate the efforts to overcome them. Atrium Health Floyd’s continued investment in Cherokee Medical Center demonstrates a long-standing commitment to strengthening healthcare access and expanding services for the residents of Cherokee County and surrounding areas.

“Since assuming management of Cherokee Medical Center in 2018, Atrium Health Floyd has invested more than $15.5 million in the hospital and Emergency Medical Services in Cherokee County,” said Tifani Kinard, Vice President of Rural Health for Atrium Health Floyd. “These investments reflect our dedication to ensuring rural communities have access to high-quality care close to home.”
