Antimicrobial stewardship seeks to optimize the use of antimicrobial agents with patients to achieve the best clinical outcome, enhance treatment and minimize the development of resistance and toxicity. Efforts are focused on the following criteria:

• Optimal selection
• Dose
• Duration
