Georgia Preceptor Tax Incentive Program (PTIP)

The Georgia Preceptor Tax Incentive Program (HB144) provides tax credits to community-based preceptors (licensed MD/DO, DDS/DMD, PA, and APRN) who are not compensated for teaching and offer clinical training to students from Georgia’s public or private medical, osteopathic, dental, advanced practice nursing, and physician assistant programs. Key Details:

  • Eligible Rotation: 160 hours of community-based clinical training.
  • Tax Credit Amounts:
    • Physicians & Dentists: $1,000 per rotation, up to $10,000/year.
    • APRNs & PAs: $750 per rotation, up to $7,500/year.
  • Maximum: 10 rotations per calendar year.
  • If a student needs only 80 hours, two rotations totaling 160 hours are required for one credit.
  • Partners may split or alternate claiming rotations.

Enrollment Steps:

  1. Be a licensed MD, DO, DDS, DMD, APRN, or PA in Georgia.
  2. Agree to teach students from Georgia academic programs.
  3. Coordinate with academic programs for rotation schedules (programs certify completion).
  4. Register as a Preceptor at http://www.augusta.edu/ahec/ptip by December 31 for credit (one-time registration).
