When to go to urgent care

Urgent care is available for issues that occur before or after your primary care provider’s normal business hours, or if your usual provider is not available.

Getting care from your primary care provider has advantages because they know you and your medical history. But when they’re not available, seeking treatment at an urgent care clinic can save you time and money and help you feel better fast.

If your condition worsens, urgent care staff can ensure seamless care by referring you to an Atrium Health Floyd and Harbin Clinic emergency department along with all their notes about your condition and results from any lab work.

Advantages of urgent care

  • Quicker access to care for non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries
  • Lower cost than an emergency department
  • No appointment necessary
  • Streamlined processes reduce wait times
  • Extended hours nights and weekends

Staff at urgent care centers can also perform X-rays and do lab testing for illnesses such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), strep throat, flu, RSV and COVID.
